薩尔曼·汗撞人地点：13年来工人们依旧睡在班德拉面包房门外台阶上
MUMBAI: Thirteen years later the scene at night in the wee hours hasn't changed out side American Express Bakery and the American Express Cleaners on Hill Road, Bandra (west).

A row of huddled slee men adorn the two steps to the shuttered doors. The bakery which became a household name since September 29, 2002, was the spot where actor Salman Khan's land cruiser is alleged to have rammed into, leaving one of the then similarly slee workers dead and four injured. The actor claims innocence, the prosecution says he is guilty.

At 2 am on the night intervening May 1 and May 2, eight workmen were fast asleep on the same steps. Their sleep deep, after a hard days work at another bakery nearby.

His name was Ali Hussain. "I work on and off since the last five years at A 1 bakery nearby. I make biscuits there." That bakery is tiny and has no steps outside to sleep on.

"I go to work at 7 am every day. I don't know what had happened here," he said when asked if he had any inkling. Ali, said he is 40 and supports a family of five, wife and four minor children, back in Lucknow with the Rs 300 he is paid per day. The rest seven men still sleep fast as he speaks, some shift their position to get comfortable on the hard concrete steps.

On May 6, the sessions judge D W Deshpande is all set to pronounce the verdict in the trial faced by Khan. The charges he was tried for include the grave culpable homicide not amounting to murder with knowledge under section 304-II of the Indian Penal Code which attracts maxmum ten years in jail and the less graver charge of causing death due to a rash act. While the city awaits the judgment date, the workmen sleep off the labour day night declaring no knowledge of the case that had made headlines 13 years ago and which ever way the long, circuitous trial ends, promises to make headlines again.
