CHANDRAPUR: Rajura police have registered a complaint and detained a parrot for allegedly berating an elderly woman. Complainant Janabai Sakharkar (60) approached Rajura police with a complaint against the pet parrot in the neighbourhood. She alleged that the parrot spouted abuses whenever it saw her. Taking cognisance of her complaint, the cops 'detained' the parrot for questioning. However, the cops failed to prompt the parrot to speak anything abusive.

Janabai Sakharkar is a resident of Masjid ward in Rajura. She has a dispute with her stepson Suresh Sakharkar over ancestor property. Her neighbour Bhaurao Watekar owns a pet parrot. Janabai alleged that whenever the parrot sees her, its starts speaking abusively to her. She alleged that her stepson Suresh has taught the parrot to abuse her. She had repeatedly complained about the abusive parrot to its owner, but to no avail.

Finally, she reached Rajura police station on Monday with the complaint. On the basis of her complaint, cops detained the parrot in question. Nearly every staffer in the police station tried to get the parrot to spout some abuse, but failed to get a response. Cops even brought Janabai in front of the parrot, but the bird did not speak any abusive words in front of the cops.

Having failed to crack the case, the helpless cops finally decided to hand over the parrot to the forest department. It was in the custody of the forest department on Tuesday. Rajura forest officials have, strangely, kept the parrot in the cell meant for people accused of violating the Forest Conservation Act.
