NEW DELHI: The jointly developed India-Russia supersonic cruisemissile, BrahMos, is all set to be the first of its kind to be integrated on afighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force, claims Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL). BrahMos is a precision strike weapon.

Earlier this year, HAL handed over the first Su-30 MKI fighter aircraftmodified for the BrahMos missile. While the Indian Army & Indian Navy have alreadyinducted the missile in service, the air-version of the BrahMos is scheduled tobe flight tested by the IAF soon.

But where are the fighters? The Brhmosmissile is essentially designed around the old MiG engines, to find a use forthe design and manufacturing facilities. While unmanned missiles are certainlyan improvement over flying coffins, those facilities are lost to Russia withUkraine. Further Brahmos are short range and have become obsolete with theTomahawk (US) and the new Russian Cruise Missiles demonstrated in Syria. Whereis the Missile that India can mount on its drones, and where are the drones?
