卡特：美国将派特种部队前往伊拉克打击ISIS
WASHINGTON: The US will send special forces to Iraq and Syria to intensify fight against dreaded militant group Islamic State, US defense secretary Ashton Carter has said, while calling on international community to step up the pace of its contributions to the fight.
"In full coordination with the government of Iraq, we're deploying a specialised expedition targeting force to assist Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces and put even more pressure on ISIS," Carter said yesterday in his appearance before the House Armed Services Committee.
"These special operators will, over time, be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture ISIS leaders," Carter said.
The chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, general Joseph Dunford, also testified before the Congressional Armed Services Committee.
Carter said the US forces will also be in a position to conduct unilateral operations in Syria.
美国国防部长阿什顿·卡特说，美国将派特种部队前往伊拉克和叙利亚，加强对IS的打击。同时，他呼吁国际社会加快步伐，为打击IS做出贡献。
“我们与伊拉克政府进行全面合作，部署一支特种部队，帮助伊拉克和库尔德部队，对ISIS施加更大的压力。”卡特昨天在出席众议院军事委员会时说。
