China's state media and sports fans have blasted the country's Olympic athletes and organisers over their poor medal count in Rio de Janeiro.
The country is normally a powerhouse at the Summer Olympics - claiming the most or second-most gold medals at the last three Games heading into Rio - but sat in third place behind the US and Great Britain before Wednesday's events.
The official inhua news service wasn't satisfied with China's tally of 17 gold medals with five days of events remaining, writing on Twitter: ''Even #GBR has one more gold than China.'
inhua probably wasn't too happy when it learned Britain had won its 19th gold, putting it two ahead of China.

Is it only me thinking that China athletes are STATE SPONSORED ( to do nothing but their sports) just like old USSR ; and therefore UNFAIR competition for all other athletes? Our athletes get little help and have to hold down normal jobs. The unfair STATE SPONSORSHIP of China athletes rank as unfair as those taking drugs - in my mind at least.

"Even Britain" has more medals than everyone else as well apart from the USA. Cruising to third place again. China will pick up more medals over the next few days and finish about six golds in front of us.

It wasn't a jab at us. It was a criticism of their own athletes. We should take it as a compliment, they know we are smashing them.
