Thanks Geeta, Gaogang is just one example of fast organized pace of growth. China too has a great problem of pollution which is a natural fallout of fast pace of growth but they are taking steps to tackle it, what is remarkable here is that the whole nation works in unison for betterment. There is no vandalism, no protest marches or Dharnas, no riots and arson-it's so peaceful that at times it is unnerving for an Indian who is so used to chaos :)

Hello Ushaji- I used to dream of floating a website and then running a tourist company and I would toy with the idea of bringing my Sulekha friends to see China with their own eyes. All that hasn't worked- but my blogs are still there for vicarious pleasures. :)

Hello Suchi, I can't help but compare and I feel bad that the freedom that de ocracy gives to the people has been grossly misused. People and the leaders think it to be a license to do loot or do whatever they wish to do and that means everything except doing any good for the society and the nation. Here in China, no one can indulge in any such nonsense

Thanks for these lovely picture posts. Looks like the city development needs, infrastructure development in the area of roads and parks in China are very similar to that of Chandigarh in Punjab or Bengaluru in Karnataka state. What I notice however, is that the Chinese do a good job fast in these areas and the citizens there are lucky. I guess all this is because the funds allocated there are truthfully spent, labor work is good with good supervision.
I wish it was the same in Chandigarh or Bengaluru for that matter lately. I have seen lovely layout plans (roads, public malls, residential areas) etc in Chandigarh way back in the 70s when I visited a CSIR lab there. The lab hosted the annual all India CSIR sports meet then. I played Cricket, Tennis and Table tennis there representing the Dehradun IIP lab (also under CSIR org) then!

lovely! the bicycle treat is magical! one really feels like visiting this vast, interesting, mysterious place after reading your blogs! I hear that they have some of the best home remedies and simple solutions for health problems. the dark truth about our politicians and their gruesome games seems to show that you are more of a journalist than you give yourself credit for!

Journalist Hahaha and a severe critic too. Wish I had chosen to be a journalist than being an Engineer. It wasn't a very lucrative profession than but it would have been more contenting, but my father thought I should be an Engineer as Arts field was for the boys who weren't good at studies and somehow I was better. As regards China- One has to see to believe, that's what I can say. And about home remedies- Recently, I had a sever backache. My colleague said that if I chose for Allopathic treatment they will subject me to various tests and so I decided to try Chinese medicine- the doctor gave me some herbal concoction and believe me it was miraculous. You must have heard about their acupuncture, massages and suction pumps et all, they are indeed as good as Indian traditional remedies. After having had such a quick relief in fact the thought of exchange of knowledge on traditional medicinal practices has occurred to me. Wonder why this hasn't been explored before. Actually China at least until recently have been a very closed society
