NEW DELHI: US defence firms offering to set up production lines in India to win deals worth billions of dollars want stronger assurances they won't have to part with proprietary technology, according to a business lobby group's letter to India's defence minister.

These companies are also saying they shouldn't be held liable for defects in products manufactured in collaboration with local partners under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India's drive to build a military industrial base.

The contract has not even been thought off, let alone signed and the blackmail has already started. The government should not succumb to this blackmail. The armament firms should be made accountable for products made in India as they would be 49% partners and the manufacturing would be done as per their technology and quality norms under their supervision. They will also export these aircraft from India where the manufacturing costs are lower than their own country, so they will in fact make good profits.

Are Indian brains so bad not being able to produce reliable military hardware? Then how come we're now No. 1 in Space and Rocket Technology? If we can't even produce a decent world-class rifle like what the Israelis do, it's not something bad with the Indian brains but the leadership. We don't have competent leaders currently to take bold decisions to produce world class military hardware on our own!

While a lot can be debated and people will start blaming PM as usal in this forum, one bigger question is that everyone in world is worried about quality of products India make or Indian work ethics which is a bigger question we should debate....no govt can change that....

If they hold technology right then what's the use of Make In India ??? It will be like assemble in India , use raw material of India , Pollute India , take money from India, keep technology and give some cheap jobs to Indians.... Jumla plan at it's best....

Boeing and Lockheed would be tough nut to crack as they would want full control over the projects.
Better align with Russians or Swedish Manufacturers for frontline advance fighters. Improve HAL capabilities to speedup productions of indeginious Tejas.
