Beiing held a live-fire exercise off its south-east coast yesterday, according to Chinese state media.

The drill is thought to be an apparent warning to the de ocratic, self-ruled island of Taiwan against what Beiing deems as provocative remarks on independence.

The People's Liberation Army of China said the exercise involved the coordination of various types of armed helicopters that detected targets on the water and attacked them, reported state broadcaster China Central Television Station today.

The official inhua News Agency said Thursday an air unit of the People's Liberation Army ground forces held a live-fire exercise on Wednesday off China's south-east coast.

The exercise ended at around 11 p.m. with the landing of the last helicopter, inhua said.

18日，陆军航空兵部队在东南沿海举行跨昼夜海上实弹射击演练。多型武装直升机密切配合，高效协同，全面检验陆航部队海上全天候作战能力。演练23点后结束。

此次演习，被认为是对台湾的警告。

Taiwan Province was returned to the Republic of China after WWII following 50 years of Japanese rule - by agreement with the UN allies. The PRC did not exst at the time and was defeated by ROC forces when they tried to take it.
