Quoting a military expert, China's state-run newspaper People Daily claimed that the Dongfeng-41, or DF-41, was ready to be commissioned.

China reportedly conducted the 10th flight test of the intercontinental ballistic missile last month, which is said to be capable of striking anywhere in the world with up to 10 nuclear warheads.

据报道，上个月进行了第十次洲际弹道导弹飞行试验，据说这种导弹可携带10枚核弹头攻击世界任一角落。

The news came as tensions between Beiing and Washington escalated over South China Sea.

DF-41 is said to have the longest range of any ballistic rockets in the world.

The missile is 16.5 meters (54 feet) long with a diameter of 2.78 meters (9.1 feet). It's said to have a range of at least 7,500 miles (12,000km) and with striking accuracy within 100 metres (328 feet).

The new missile also has a speed of more than Mach 10 (7,672mph) and can use decoy devices to find it way through the enemy's missile defence systems.

People's Daily, the mouth-piece of China's Co unist Party, published the report on Friday.

The report was titled 'DF-41 has reached the standard of deployment and is among the most powerful missiles in the world, says expert'.

Four days earlier, American website Washington Free Beacon reported that China carried out the 10th flight test of DF-41 on May 27 at the Taiyuan Space Launch Centre, quoting a Pentagon source.

The report said the missile flew overland several thousand miles to an impact zone in the Gobi Desert in far-flung Western China.

Chinese military expert Shao Yongling told People's Daily that if the claims of the 10th test proved to be true, it would mean that DF-41 is ready to be deployed.

Shao's opinion was echoed by another Chinese military expert Song Zhong, who was interviewed by Global Times.

Beiing has yet to confirm or deny the claims of the flight test.

DF-41 has been developed to rival the sixth-generation missiles from the West, such as the American LGM-30 Minuteman and the Russian RT-2PM2, according to a previous report on People's Daily.

根据《人民日报》先前的一份报道，东风-41已经成功研发，可与西方的第六代导弹竞争，例如美国的LGM-30民兵和俄罗斯的RT-2PM2。

Last November, China Central Television Station said DF-41 was likely to enter service in the first half of 2018. The report quoted Yang Chengjun, a Chinese expert on missile technologies and nuclear warfare strategy.

'The missile can hit any corner of the earth, allowing China to counter a nuclear strike on the country,' Yang said.

In the same report, the Chinese state broadcaster aired rare footage of the missile. Footage shows the powerful weapon being transported and launched in disclosed desert-like locations.

China has claimed to own about 2,500 ballistic missiles.
