MEERUT: A 73-year-old man who was forcibly evicted from a train because his ticket was wrongly dated 1,000 years in the future was on Tuesday awarded compensation by a consumer court in Saharanpur.

Vishnu Kant Shukla, a retired professor, had boarded Himgiri Express for a journey from Saharanpur to Jaunpur on November 19, 2013.

密鲁特：一名73岁男子因其车票日期被错误打印成1000年以后的日期，被强行赶下火车。本周二萨拉兰普尔的一家消费者法院判定给予赔偿。

The train ticket examiner (TTE) however, found Shukla’s ticket was dated for 3013, and removed Shukla from the train at Moradabad.

Shukla told TOI, “I retired as head of the Hindi department from JV Jain Degree College in Saharanpur.In short, I am not a person who would travel by train with a fake ticket and here was a TTE who humiliated me in front of everyone, demanded I pay a penalty of Rs 800, and even got me evicted from the train. It was an important journey as I had to visit my friend whose wife had expired.”

火车检票员发现舒克拉拿着“3013”年的车票，在莫拉达巴德将他赶下火车。。

舒克拉告诉《印度时报》：“我是一名从萨拉兰普尔JV Jain学院印地语系退休的主任教授，显然不是那种会拿着假车票去坐火车的人。那个检票员当着众人的面羞辱我，要我支付800卢比的罚款，甚至将我赶下火车。对我来说，这趟旅行相当重要。因为我得去拜访一位朋友，他的妻子过世了。”

The case went on for five long years. On Tuesday, the court decided in favour of Shukla and slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the Railways for causing mental harassment an additional Rs 3,000 compensation.

这起案件拉锯了5年之久。本周二，法院决定支持舒克拉的诉求，判处铁路公司罚款10000卢比。此外针对原告遭受的精神伤害，额外赔偿3000卢比。

The court observed, “To de-board a person of an advanced age in the middle of a journey causes a great amount of physical strain and mental harassment. This clearly shows there were flaws in services provided by the department.”

Railways officials declined to comment on the matter.

法院指出，让一位高龄旅客在旅途中下车会对其造成巨大的身体压力和精神折磨，这显然表明铁路运营方在服务上存在重大缺陷。

对于此事，印度铁路公司官员未予置评。

No one suffered more than this poor passenger who did the right thing by buying the ticket. Surprisingly, nothing has happened to the person who issued a ticket with a wrong date; the person who programmed the ticket; the person who evacuated this gentleman from the train in the middle of journey; and nothing happened to the judiciary who took 5 years in handling a case which could have been decided in 5 minues. And, look at the amount of compensation! What can you do in Rs 10,000 these days? He should have been awarded at least Rs 1 lakh, I reckon!
