为什么总是有20%的印度火车晚点

CHENNAI: Last month, a NEET aspirant from Mallapuram in Kerala booked train tickets to come to Chennai for the exam. Her plan: The train would reach Chennai by 4:30am and she would have around four hours to freshen up and reach the exam centre. But the railways, unknowingly, had willed otherwise. The train was delayed by around five hours and the girl could not report to the venue on time. The delay cost her a year’s effort.

上个月，喀拉拉邦一女孩去金奈参加考试，她预订了火车票，计划是这样的：火车于上午4点30分抵达金奈，然后她有4个小时的时间前往考试中心。

然而事与愿违，火车晚点了5个小时，女孩没能按时抵达考试中心。结果是一年的努力白费了。

This was not a stray incident. Data tabled in Parliament shows that punctuality of trains terminating in Chennai and other stations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala has deteriorated over the past three years. The punctuality rate dropped from 88.3% in 2015-16 to 80% in 2017-18. Punctuality of every class of train — from premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi to super-fast and express trains — has got hit. (The punctuality figures indicate the percentage of trains which were on time.)

这绝非个例。议会的数据显示，过去3年来，发往金奈，以及发往喀拉拉邦和泰米尔纳德邦其他火车站的火车，准点状况恶化了。

准点率从2015-16年的88.3%，下降到2017-18年的80%。

每一个等级的火车，从Rajdhani和Shatabdi豪华列车到超级特快，都不能幸免。

Useless article: Tamil Nadu is bothered on trains late by 4-5 hours. Whereas 90% trains in Uttar Pradesh are daily late by 10 hours and Guwahati/ Kolkata bound passengers have adjusted themselves to the ineffectiveness.

Trains come late, so that the late comers do not miss the train. This is for benefit of late comers. You visit any government office, the officials always come late. Same is true to railways.

对姗姗来迟的乘客是有好处的。

I travel extensively on Kolkata- Delhi-Mumbai route and maxmum 20% times the trains run on schedule. Only Shatabdi and Rajdhani manage to stick within 30-60 min of scheduled arrival time. Don''t know how do they say it''s 80% on time...

Late running of trains depends upon so many factors contributing to the delays. Simply cutting the salaries of the staff is not going to improve the punctuality of the train service.
