ALAPPUZHA: Football craze is not something new when it comes to Malayalis and Cherthala native Cliffin Francis (28) has underscored this emotion with his singular goal of watching the World Cup in Russia by cycling most of the way to his destination. He started his journey on February 23 after saving money for a few months.

人们对足球的狂热已经不是啥新鲜事了。28岁的柯林芬·弗朗西斯通过骑车去俄罗斯观看世界杯来表达这一狂热。存了几个月钱后，他于2月23日开始了行程。

Francis, who bought a cycle after taking a flight to Dubai, has cycled over 4,000km across UAE, Iran, Azerbaijan and reached Russia. Just 600km away from Moscow, he is also closer to his dream: getting a signature of Lionel Messi on his cycle.

弗朗西斯坐飞机去迪拜，然后买了一辆自行车，骑行穿过阿联酋、伊朗、阿塞拜疆、然后抵达俄罗斯，全程4000多公里，现在距离莫斯科只有600公里了。他即将实现梦想，那就是让梅西在他自行车上签名。

"I went to Iran from UAE by ship. Though I was planning to go Russia through Georgia, I didn't get a visa and I reached Russia through Azerbaijan,'' said Clifin.

柯林芬说：“我从阿联酋坐船去伊朗。原本打算经格鲁吉亚去俄罗斯的，不过没拿到签证，只好从阿塞拜疆去俄罗斯。”

His longest journey before his Russian ride was a cycle trip to Kanyakumari. "I loved football since childhood and Argentina is my favourite team. Watching a World Cup was my dream but it is very expensive. I will watch a group match between France and Denmark, spend some days in Russia and return home on my cycle," he said.

Cycling has always been a part of his life since childhood days. "Whenever he came home from Kochi, he always used to cycle. He always scored full marks in maths," said his uncle Xavier AJ.

When he entered Russia, security officers who came to know of his World Cup craze, were curious to know about actors Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan.
