HYDERABAD: A newly-wed couple was brutally attacked in the heart of Hyderabad on Wednesday afternoon by the girl's drunk father, who chopped off the girl's hand and seriously injured her husband. The girl is critical. The gruesome incident comes just days after the horrific honour killing in Nalgonda + , where a Dalit youth was murdered in front his pregnant wife

Banjara Hills police said the father, Manohar Chary, 42, who was arrested from his brother in-law's house at MS Makhta later in the evening, was upset over the inter-caste marriage and carried out the attack on B Sandeep, 22, and Madhavi Chary, 20, who were in a relationship for five years.

They secretly married in a temple in Bolarum on September 12, despite stiff opposition from the girl's father, Manohara Chary, 42, who is employed in a jewellery workshop in SR Nagar. The boy, who lost his father and is a college student, is a Dalit, while the girl is an OBC.

On Wednesday afternoon, Manohar called his daughter over phone and asked her to come with her husband for reconciliation. The couple readily agreed and reached the bustling Gokul Theatre in Erragadda area on a Scooty, and waited for some time.

CCTV footage obtained by police showed how Manohar first hit the boy, who somehow managed to free himself and flee. Manohar then set his eyes on his daughter. He hit her on her hand, chop of her lower left forehand, and then slashed her left jaw. “She shouted out, nanna(father) stop, don’t hit me,” a witness said, quoting the girl, who slumped on the ground.

As Manohar tried to hit the girl again, a person from behind kicked him, throwing him off balance. A scared Manohar left the scene, as crowd gathered and Madhavi screamed for help.“He hacked them with sickle, which he stole from a coconut vendor, multiple times. The boy suffered injuries to his head, but girl has deep cuts on forehand and left side of neck,” said Vijay Kumar, ACP, Banjara Hills. Police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and the SC and ST Act against Manohar and found his blood alcohol level at an alarming 370 mg/100 ml. He was consuming alcohol for the past five days. “He told us that he wanted to kill his daughter, and was ho she would come alone,” DCP (west zone) AR Srinivas said.

Police said soon after the couple got married, they visited SR Nagar police station to seek help. “We had called their parents and counselled them. While the couple lived at the boy’s residence, Madhavi’s father, who claimed he was not aware of the affair till they got married, insisted they come home. He had been visiting the boy’s house every day since September 15, pleading they come home,” said Kumar.

On one end, taking law into hands should be condemned at any cost. On the other end, going by this News Report - He is Just 22 and the Girl is of Age 20. Further it is said they are in relation from 5 years. That means this started when Boy was of age 17 and girl of 15. That is an age when the total mind should be fiiled with studies. How come they are thinking of forming relations? A Normal person''s child who comes from middle class, his thinking goes like I should become something otherwise, I can''t support my family in future and also I don''t any support from Government in terms of reservations or any schemes. Never his mind gets deviated to other things. Here, the report says he is a dalit. So he comes from a family which were denied of their basic rights from generations. Now, when Government providing all sort of incentives plus reservations, he should pounce upon to utilize the opportunity to raise to new heights. Instead, he is thinking of forming relationships. Falling in this relationship trap, will effect his studies. He will remain as a poor performer. Again crying the society is responsible for our backwardness and demanding more incentives. Where we are heading. As the act of Girls''s father is condemn able, so is the act of these children who instead of focusing on studies are focusing on forming relationships.
