Indian people on the other hand, having a passionate soul and DNA, go batshit crazy whenever somebody mentions rape in India. They start pulling out all the statistics if they’re on the mild side or start calling the other person bad words if they’re in a really bad state of mind.
This sense of personal attack seriously reaches another level when you start asking other people about what they hate in your country. Again me being very Dutch, but I’m just like: WHY.DO.YOU.CARE? Because you want a fight? Because you feel changing my opinion will change the opinion of the world about India? Do you feel like a bad host because your guest doesn’t understand your culture and doesn’t want to adapt?
Yes international and national media talk shit about India. But let me tell you a secret: they talk shit about every country in the world because negativity sells. Yes some foreigners complain about staring, littering, poor people, corruption etc in India. Honestly unless their country is perfect, they don’t have the right to complain about any of India’s flaws. These are just rude guests and you shouldn’t give them the credits they don’t deserve.
India is an absolutely phenomenal country and has so much more good things to offer than bad things. Obviously it has it’s struggles but every single country has them. Indian should really start caring a lot less about what the rest of the world thinks of them. Trust me, you don’t need that validation.

I’d like to share my experience. And what I am about to tell might offend some Indians but this is what I feel.
I’m from the beautiful island of New Zealand. Me and my hubby were on a two week tour to India. The overall experience was amazing! There are some breathtaking views in Simla, Rishikesh, Manali and of course there was the serene beauty of Taj Mahal.
But there were some unpleasant experiences during the whole tour. Most of it happened in the country’s capital.
- There was a lot of staring. I don’t know what is it with the pedestrians in the capital, but they kept staring at me incessantly till the point I was feeling really uncomfortable. Our tour guide kept tagging them as “UP & Bihari people”.
- People would spit wherever the fuck they want. It doesn’t matter if it is a footpath or the road. This is disgusting and more importantly, a gateway for a lot of diseases.
- During the whole tour, each and every day I read a news regarding rape so there’s that. But one peculiar fact exacerbated things for me. According to Google, there has been 277% rise in rape cases in the capital. Wake up India!
- We were at the receiving end of a lot of restaurant scams in Agra and New Delhi. When the waiter bought us the bill we realized we were the victims of very clever scams.
- From what I’ve seen here, either the person is really rich or really poor. Trust me, as a country, this is a bad thing.
- The pollution is a very serious problem in the capital. It took a toll on me. My skin developed some rashes and acne. My family doc says it's definitely because of the poor air quality my skin has endured during the two weeks.
- Don't get me started on the traffic. It was a tad bit irritating. People would take their cars on the wrong side of the road like it is a normal thing.
No offence!

Hate is a strong word. There is nothing to be hated about India as it is a great country which is not the cause of any major problems in the world today ( maybe food wastage along with USA).
There is nothing wrong with India as a country and there are many positives that India possesses . It is a country with tremendous potential and there is no doubt in my mind that it could be the next global superpower. If there is something I am not a fan of when it comes to India, it has to be habits such as
1.Littering. Throwing away tea cups and bag of chips from trains
2.Taking dumps on railroad tracks. Please. Just No. ( Mumbai)
3.Absolutely atrocious traffic etiquette in places like Mumbai. Everything is a struggle. Even crossing from one end of the street to another is a big challenge with people, dogs, bikes, rickshaws and cows all fighting to get from one side of the street to other.
4.Another bad traffic etiquette- No one gives way for ambulances in busy traffic. That would be considered out of place in Western countries. As a police officer , I wanted to slap the shit out of the dude who overtook a freakin ambulance , but then I remembered I am not working and I am on a vacation!
5.Pushing and lack of respect for personal space in trains and buses. People often cut cross lines, push you ( no “excuse me” or sorry) and brush past you. People even do that in empty trains. Unnecessary.
6.There are many parts of India that are clean and well organized. However, the marketing /promotion for those places is below desired levels. I took a train ride from Mumbai to Karnataka and the belt was beyond beautiful. But it is only “Mumbai’ and “Goa” that foreign tourists visit .
I would rather want India to hold its own than try to imitate any Western country. India is a good place to escape from the fake and selfish attitude that is majorly prevalent in Western cultures. India is not a third world by any standards , but a badly organized economic force that could be there but is still not yet there
Mumbai would require an overhaul with organization of traffic and trains and the filthy sewers that need to be cleaned ASAP. Again, it is certainly doable and has been done in cities before. ( Singapore and NYC). In fact, there is a tiny town called Hoboken where my great grandparents immigrated from Italy. The place used to be a breeding ground for Italian mafia and wannabe thugs from Sicily and was considered the sewer of the east coast. You just knew that you were lucky if you had been mugged only a handful of times in a year and had all your body parts still attached to your own during Christmas. It was that bad in Hoboken. Today, it is one of the most beautiful and expensive places in the easy coast. It only got cleaned up in the 90s . Hoboken is the hometown of Frank Sinatra and birthplace of baseball. If a small town like Hoboken got there, Mumbai should definitely make it. The city hits most of the cities ( except NYC) out of the park with its energy level, enthusiasm and positive outlook. Again, if you look at the history of NYC, it was known for gangwars and mafia and was a shithole and only got cleaned up in the 70s and 80s.
The change will happen when the folks desire it. Will power is everything.Good Luck.

GETTING SCAMMED
They know that wherever they go, whatever they do, there would be a scumbag scammer waiting to scam them.
One day, while watching Zee News, I came upon this -
His name is Karl Rock. He is an expat from New Zealand currently living in Delhi. He makes videos about his adventures and experiences in India and posts them on Youtube, where his channel has over 200k subscribers. On Zee News, he was talking about the various times he was scammed and he gave some tips on how to avoid these scammers. He had also mentioned about his Youtube channel, so I got curious and checked it, and man wasn't I shocked and disgusted!!
He has an entire playlist of 14 videos where he showed how people tried to scam him in various places .

I’ll just give a few screenshots from his videos of where he got scammed, just to show how serious this matter really is.
Like for example this;
