No.
India have made strides on the football field, there is no denying that. But with all the people following the team, there also comes a great deal of exaggerated publicity. For example, we have Sunil Chhetri, who has scored 62 international goals, and is second on the list of top international scorers who are active. Many Indian fans have claimed that he is as good as Messi, or at least the second tier of footballers (Neymar, Hazard, Dybala).
But Chhetri isn’t the only surprising name on that list of top scorers. Clint Dempsey of the United States is in fifth place, above Neymar. And there is also a name no one has heard of! Kuwait’s Bader Al Mutawa takes up eighth place on this list, with 53 goals. But while Chhetri is getting plaudits from fans all over the world (thanks to the influence of Indian admins), Al Mutawa has not received any attention for his exploits at all!
Coming to the rest of the team, India is just not the finished product yet. This is because of the popularity of cricket. While the government invested all their efforts in cricket, there has been nothing in the field of other sports. Footballers need to be exposed to competition and training from a young age if they want to become good enough to make it into a top European or American club. But the emphasis on cricket in India, coupled with the Indian parenting mentality of engineering being the sole path of life, makes it very hard for budding footballers to fulfill their dreams.
The AFC qualification itself is a tough process. In qualification for the 2018 World Cup, India finished last in their group, below Guam. While they did win a tournament lately, that tournament did not contain stars from other participants who play in Europe, such as New Zealand’s Chris Wood, or Kenya’s Wanyama.
To conclude, India has done well recently, no doubt. But the World Cup is on a whole new level. It is like saving for a $100 million private jet. You earn $10,000 more. It is a lot of money, but it is nothing compared to the 100 million dollars needed.
Manasbrata Sarkar, Simply curious
Let us first qualify for the final phase of the tournament, where it is decided who’s the Asian Champion. Then let us qualify for the Olympics. That too is a big football tournament worth discussing.
This question is akin to asking - Can a 4 feet 10 inches tall basketball player be in the wng team of NBA, which is largely dominated by 6 feet 10 inches tall players? Well, why not? But it could take some time….
But what’s wrong with Commonwealth Games Shooting Competition, or World Badminton tournaments or IPL and other short versions of Cricket? We have modified all these games to suit us. We are doing quite well in all these. Why think about Qatar 2022? An Asiad is in the offing too, where we surely win a few Gold Medals. Why not think about these tournaments? There is ISL too, where you’ll find those retired players from some of the top leagues of Europe and the Bollywood Stars too, dancing, screaming and celebrating (I’m not very sure though, for whom and for what do they do that).
Be happy and content with what you already have. Enjoy being on your terrace. Don’t suddenly start dreaming about being on the top of Mount Everest or on Moon. Think of taking the next step, when you first get to see some light on the horizon.
Good luck….

Well we don't really have a chance.
There is a big difference in standard between India and other top countries in Asia. In 2014 WC Qualification we finished last in out group behind a small country like Guam.
The standard of our league is pretty poor yesterday Kerala Blasters with 2 of India's starting Center Backs conceded 6 goals against Melbourne City FC of A-League despite playing in their home ground. This pretty much shows the standard of Indian football.
We haven't progressed since ages and our recent results are against relatively smaller sides.
PS - I have been following Indian football for a long time

Football has been neglected in India from the very start. You can hardly find a well equipped academy for professional football training in India. Footballing nations of Europe and Latin America start training children at the age of 6. So by the time they are adult they are faster, stronger and skilled as compared to Indian football players who hardly join academies at the age of 14–15.
Ofcourse now there have been significant development in this field after introduction of ISL and new foreign football club academies have started establishing training schools in India.
Years of negligence will take few more years to rectify it. After looking at the current U20 and U17 Indian team all I can say is that they need to work harder to qualify for the 2022 WC.

2022 seems tough, but we have a real chance for the 2026 WC.
If we see the current form and enthusiasm of Indian Football Team, we can clearly see that there is improvement.
Current Rank is 97 as of June 2018, and it'll only get better.
After ISL and I-League becomes a two tier league we can expect much more competitive sports in Indian Football.
Our biggest chance is definitely for 2026 WC scheduled to be held in USA, Canada, Mexco.
48 Teams will be qualified instead of just 32. That will definitely be the aim as of now.

Originally Answered: Will India qualify for 2022 football world cup?
No.
According to me India will have a high level of chances of getting qualified in 2030 , more 12 years to go because,
Indian football culture was revived just 3 years back with ISL getting all the attention.
India has just qualified for the Asian cup and its playing standard compared to the likes of Koreans , Australia and japan etc. can be rated like 5 or 6/10 , it will take a high level of defensive and counter attacking capabilities to defeat such Asian giants , which is where Constantine is working on (Indian football team Manager).
And players who represented the nation in U 17 world cup , As the first global international football generation of India… they'll atleast take 7–8 years to fully become Good players ,
Im saying Good players compared to other players internationally,

First of all, the answer to the question is No.
The reason is that we (Indian football team) are not aiming for the world cup right now. Our main aim is to qualify and compete in the AFC Asia Cup. Not just once, but every time.
We have qualified for the Asia cup just 4 times - 1964, 1984, 2011 and, 2019.
Once, we start qualifying frequently, we would be competing against the big teams in Asia - Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia, etc. This would increase our competition levels.
And if we start reaching the quarters or semis of this tournament, we can think of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™, because then we would be among the top 5 or 6 teams in Asia.
So, the question that should be asked is - “Is the Indian Football Team good enough to qualify again for the AFC Asia Cup 2023? “.
Wait and watch in 2019.
