Online shoppers have splurged a whop 213.5 billion yuan (£23.8 billion) on this year's Singles Day, China's annual buying bonanza which takes place on November 11, shattering last year's record.

The annual 24-hour retail frenzy is the world's biggest online sales event, outstrip the sales of US shop holidays Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
