NEW DELHI: The successful return of IAF fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman from captivity and surgical strikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan continued to dominate the discourse as PM Narendra Modi said the meaning of “abhinandan” will now change as India has the strength to alter the dictionary meaning of some words.

新德里: 印度空军飞行员阿比纳丹的安全归来，以及对巴基斯坦的恐怖分子营进行外科手术打击继续主导着舆论，印度总理莫迪表示“abhinandan”（阿比纳丹）一词的含义将发生改变，印度有能力改变词典中某些单词的含义。

After his remarks on Saturday morning, he later attributed Varthaman’s return to Indian soil to the success of his government’s foreign policy. He did so while attacking previous Congress governments for defence scams and regretting absence of Rafale fighters to counter opposition allegations over the deal. Rafale fighters could have delivered even better results, he said.

莫迪在周六上午发表讲话，将阿比纳丹瓦得以返回印度归功于印度政府外交的成功，同时还抨击了前国大党政府的欺诈行为，并对“阵风”战机的缺席表示遗憾。他说，阵风战机本可以带来更好的结果。

Modi said the Rafale deal was not finalised by the previous government for “swar-th-niti (vested interests)” and now an effort is on to hamper it for political reasons. The PM said from Jeep to helicopter deals, Congress was involved in corruption leading to huge loss to the defence sector.

莫迪称，为了“既得利益”，前任政府没有敲定“阵风”战机的交易，而且现在正以政治为由试图阻碍这笔交易，从吉普车到直升机交易，国大党都卷入了腐败，给印度国防造成巨大损失。

While referring to the IAF officer’s return, Modi said, “The entire world pays full attention to whatever India does. This country has the strength to change the meaning of words in dictionary. Abhinandan once used to mean congratulations in English, now the meaning of Abhinandan will change.”

谈到印度空军军官归国时，莫迪说:“全世界都在关注印度的一举一动，这个国家有能力改变字典里某些单词的含义。Abhinandan在英语中曾表示“祝贺”的意思，现在它的含义将会改变。”

Soon after the pilot was released on Friday, Modi had tweeted, “Welcome Home Wing Commander Abhinandan! The nation is proud of your exemplary courage.”.

At the India Today Conclave, Modi admitted that he was a rookie to Delhi corridors when he took over as PM in 2014, which, however, proved a boon in disguise as he could start afresh leading to evolution of success stories like a new foreign policy resulting in emergence of a decisive India.
