A tour of one of the world's biggest SLUMS has been named as the most highly rated tourist experience in India by TripAdvisor

The guided excursion of the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, which has a population of 700,000, saw off competition for the top spot from tours of Old Dehli and the Taj Mahal in the 2019 Travellers’ Choice Awards for Experiences.

In addition, it also came 10th in the list of the best tourist experiences in the whole of Asia.

The tour, which costs £9 ($11.50), allows a group of six people to explore the houses and businesses in the slum as well as visit a local bakery and a recycling centre.'Most proceeds go back into the community, and you'll explore in a small group limited to six.'

If you want a shock to your system, go see an Indian slum. These people really live in garbage. I've been to India three times for business and I've seen where the haves and have nots lives. In some cases, they are just neighbors. It's truly shocking. The poor in America are middle class compared to Indian poor.

I did this tour last month. It is conducted by residents of Dharavi and the proceeds support schooling for the slum kids. It is mind-blowing, but surprisingly uplifting. There is a reason it is so highly rated. I would recommend it to anyone who is ever in Mumbai.

Except the people of India are working hard to live, their own country has a huge lack of infrastructure, but it does not stop them from creating small businesses.
