17% of Indian cities and towns face water shortage; TN tops list

NEW DELHI: About 17% notified cities and towns in India face water shortage, according to a list prepared by the central government. Among the states, Tamil Nadu has maxmum number of such urban areas followed by Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. All the four municipal areas in Delhi including the posh NDMC zone have been included in the list of 756 “water stressed” urban areas out of total 4,378 which are governed by municipal bodies.

新德里: 中央政府编制的一份清单显示，约17%的城镇面临水资源短缺。在所有邦中，泰米尔纳德邦缺水的城镇数量位居榜首，其次是拉贾斯坦邦和北方邦。在4378个由市政机构管理的城区中，德里4个市政辖区，均被列入756个“水资源紧张”城区清单。

All urban areas surrounding the national capital such as Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad have been facing similar shortage.

首都周围的所有城市，如加济阿巴德、诺伊达和法里达巴德也面临水短缺问题

People who uneducated multiplying like cockroach consuming resources will turn to violence fighting for survival .. Uncontrolled Population going unchecked burdening Mother Nature is bound to have dire consequences..

I think it is Nehru's fault for building dams like Narmada Sarovar Dam which supplies water and electricity to Gujarat, Maharashtra, MP and Rajasthan. Instead he should have spend Rs 3000 Crores on another statue of Ram on banks of river Narmada so god would bless us with rain forever. Nehru was not a visionary like Modi. He was foolish and built 70% of dams that ext today.

Wrong. It was built by Nehru. In 2015 Feku only increased height by 4 meters and declared it was the toughest job in the world.

There has been water shortage since Independence mainly because the population has been growing exponentially. The population of Chennai has grown 10 times in the last 7 decades. The solution is low population. If the population remains constant there will be no water shortage.
