I was attacked for wearing shorts and smoking in my own locality, says Kolkata woman

加尔各答女子：我在自己的地方穿短裤和吸烟而被打

KOLKATA: A third-year undergraduate from Presidency University on Friday April 15, 2016, was subjected to moral policing and assault for 'daring' to smoke in public and wearing shorts, in Ranikuthi, South Kolkata. Currently, a second-year masters student at Jadavpur University, she recounts her encounter and tells TOI how little things have changed:

2016年4月15日，在加尔各答南部，来自普雷斯顿大学的一位大三学生，“胆敢”在公众场合吸烟和穿短裤，而受到道德说教和攻击。如今已经是贾达沃普尔大学研究生二年级的她，讲述她当年的这一遭遇：

It was extremely scary. You feel like you're being continuously watched and judged. I was in my locality when the incident occurred three years ago. They clicked pictures of me and my friend, and boxed us down while shaming and abusing us. All because I was wearing shorts. Just because we're women, we have been taught to abide by draconian laws and subjected to social stigma. It is disgusting, devoid of any reasoning or rationality and needs to stop.

吓死了。感觉自己一直被盯着看。3年前，这起事件发生的时候。他们给我和朋友拍照，不停地羞辱我们，辱骂我们。一切的一切，都是因为我穿短裤。就因为我们是女人，我们被要求遵守德拉古法，被社会污名化。恶心。

I guess this is a made up story and she might have been attacked because of smoking in public. Men get attacked too for smoking or drinking in public. No point using this fake story as a propoganda for "Violence against women "

If not moral policing, even if a legislation is to be made, i am sure 99% Indian women vote against women smoking in public.

I completely agree that it's individual choice of what to wear. how to present. no one should ask a question to them about thier dress.,But their is saying in English as When in Rome do as Romans.
