Develop hi-tech weapons, Rajnath Singh, Ajit Doval tell DRDO

NEW DELHI: With India continuing to languish as virtually the world's largest arms importer, the country's national security leadership on Tuesday stressed the urgent need for DRDO to develop high-tech weapon systems as well as "home-grown solutions" in space, cyberspace, electronic warfare, robotics and other such arenas.

新德里：随着印度日趋成为全球最大的武器进口国，周二国家安全领导层强调，印度国防研究与发展组织亟需开发高科技武器系统，以及建立在太空、网络空间、电子战、机器人和其他领域的“本土解决方案”。

Addressing the 41st directors conference of Defence Research and Development Organisation, defence minister Rajnath Singh asked scientists to develop an "indigenous innovation system", with less dependence on imported military systems, to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies. "Development of technology should be cost effective and time efficient," he said.

在第41届国防研究与发展组织董事会议上，印度国防部长拉杰纳特·辛格要求科学家们开发“自主创新系统”，减少对进口军事系统的依赖，实现关键国防技术的自给自足。拉杰纳特称:“技术开发应具成本效益和时间效益。”

Army chief General Bipin Rawat, in turn, expressed confidence that India will fight and win the next war with indigenous weapon systems. "India is one of the largest importers of weapons and ammunition, and after 70 years of Independence, it is not a very proud statement to make. But in the past few years, it is changing. DRDO is striving to ensure our requirements of services are met with home-grown solutions," he said.

印度陆军参谋长比平·拉瓦特则表示，印度有信心用本土武器系统打赢下一场战争。“印度是最大的武器和弹药进口国之一，在独立70年后，这并不值得自豪。但在过去几年里，情况正在发生变化。国防研究与发展组织（DRDO）正在努力确保提供本土解决方案，满足我们的需求。”
