Jaipur: BSF constable refuses Rs 11 lakh dowry at wedding

JAIPUR: A BSF constable refused to accept Rs 11 lakh cash as dowry at his wedding at Amba Bari locality in the city on Saturday. The constable instead accepted Rs 11 and a coconut as token from the bride’s parents.

斋普尔：周六，在安巴巴里举行的婚礼上，一名印度边境安全部队（BSF）警员拒收110万卢比的现金嫁妆，然后象征性接受新娘父母给的11卢比和一个椰子作为嫁妆。

Setting an example against the evil custom of dowry, BSF constable Jitendra Singh said a clear no to the cash being offered to him at the wedding. Initially, the bride’s parents were shocked as they thought the baraatis (wedding guests) were unhappy with some of their arrangements, however everyone had tears of joy after seeing the gesture by the bridegroom. Jitendra got married to Chanchal Shekawat in the city on Saturday.

BSF警员吉腾德拉·辛格树立了一个反嫁妆这一恶习的榜样，他明确拒收嫁妆。起初，新娘的父母很震惊，他们以为新郎的家人对此不满意。然后，当看到新郎的这一举动后，每个人都流下了喜悦的泪水。周六，吉腾德拉和尚沙勒·谢卡瓦特在这座城市举行了婚礼。

“I was shocked and initially thought either the family of the bridegroom wanted more money or they were unhappy with the arrangements. Later, we realized that he and his family were totally against the money being offered to them,” said 59-year-old Govind Singh Shekhawat, father of Chanchal Shekhawat, the bride.

When contacted, Jitendra Singh, a constable of BSF posted at Chattisgarh said, “The day I was told that my wife-to-be had done LLB and LLM and is also pursuing a PhD, I thought she is good enough for me and my family. That day, I made up my mind to not take any dowry and my family thought we will declare this decision to my in-laws on the wedding day itself.”
