Malaysia will not take retaliatory trade action against India over its boycott of palm oil purchases amid a political row between the two countries, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday.

马来西亚总理马哈蒂尔•穆罕默德周一表示，针对印度抵制购买棕榈油，马来西亚不会采取报复性贸易行动。

India, the world's largest edible oil buyer, this month effectively halted imports from its largest supplier and the world's second-biggest producer in response to comments from Mahathir attacking India's domestic policies.

作为全球最大的食用油买家，印度本月已暂停从其最大供应商和全球第二大生产商进口食用油，以回应马哈蒂尔抨击印度国内政策的言论。

"We are too small to take retaliatory action," Mahathir told reporters in Langkawi, a resort island off the western coast of Malaysia. "We have to find ways and means to overcome that," he added.

Mahathir again criticised India's citizenship law on Monday, saying he believed it was "grossly unfair".

India is spending every year over 10 billion dollars importing palm oil. It is high time the government gave adequate incentives for farmers to grow Sun Flower crop. With three high yielding crops a year, 5 lakh acres can eliminate this huge forex expenditure on palm il. What is holding back the government from doing this ?

This issue of palm oil diplomacy should be an eye-opener for us. While it is a fact that no nation can produce all the goods and in a globalised world goods are procured from all over the world,at least self sufficiency and self reliance in food is absolutely necessary. If we could achieve marvellous results in food grains and milk through green Revolution and white Revolution, there is no reason why we cannot be self sufficient in other produces by adopting modern methods of science and tech in agriculture. Another agriculture Revolution holistically speaking is overdue for which we have harness the talents agricultural scientists like Sri. MS Swaminathan and the lage Dr. Kurien and we must have many of them wasting somewhere due to lack official encouragement and politics. The death of Vashistha Narayan Singh recently,the unsung hero and genius is a sad commentary on the State of science in our country.
