How Modi’s Namaste speech embraced the Trump parivar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi piled on the compliments for all the family members who accompanied the US president in one of the few instances when the whole family travelled together halfway around the world, as Donald Trump pointed out.

印度总理纳伦德拉·莫迪对陪伴特朗普总统的所有家庭成员大加赞扬，正如特朗普所指出的，此次出访全家一起飞越了半个地球，这种情况为数不多。

In his opening remarks at Motera Stadium, Modi described Trump as a man who "thinks big". "He has worked hard to realise the American dream, which is evident to the whole world. Today, we welcome the entire Trump family," he said.

莫迪在莫特拉体育场的开幕致辞中称特朗普是一个“胸怀大志”的人。“他一直在努力实现美国梦，这一点全世界都很清楚。今天，我们在这里欢迎特朗普及其家人。”

Addressing Melania Trump directly, Modi said, "First Lady Melania, your presence here is an honour for us. The work you did for healthy and happy America is yielding its result. The work you did for children and society is commendable. Your slogan is ‘Be Best’ you may have noticed that today, most of the people who have come here have expressed the same sentiment."

Recalling his previous meeting with Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and senior advisor, Modi said, "You had told me two years ago that you wanted to return to India. I am happy that you are again amongst us today, and I welcome you."

Not leaving out the powerful Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, Modi said, "Jared, your speciality is you stay away from the limelight, but the work you do affects many and has far-reaching effects. Whenever we have met, you and I have discussed all your Indian friends. I’m very happy to see you here."

Later in the afternoon, the Trump family visited Taj Mahal, taking photographs and immersing themselves in its timeless beauty.
