Not going to happen.

Too many people, not enough resources, poor education, poor work ethics, poor political ethics.

What WILL happen is that the isolated pockets of wealth might get bigger, which means that for the 50 -70 million who live well today, that might go up to 100–120 million.

The rest will remain more or less where they are, and the poorest/destitute, which today are about 500 million, will go up to 600 million.

This is an invalid question.

Why?

You did not tell USA of when. Are you asking USA of today? So you mean to ask how many years it will take India to be as developed as USA is today? That would not make much sense as US of today is no standard and infact it's on a downfall. Or do you mean to ask how many years it will take India to be more or as developed as USA at any given point of time provided USA own development comes to a halt at that random time in the future? This is also just another way of putting the first question.

Now if you want to ask just a simple question without any reference to the relative timelines, India has already beaten USA. India has a mega successful space program with the ability to reach Mars in just 70 years of Independence. India is a nucklear state in just 70 years. For USA, well black people were still sold in open market after 70 years of it's independence. US had no space program by then.

So technically speaking, India has already beaten USA.

如果不考虑相对时间，从独立开始算的话，其实印度已经超过美国了啊。

独立70年，印度就成功把探测器送往火星了；独立70年，印度就成为了核国家；

而美国独立70年的时候，还在贩卖黑奴呢。美国独立70年的时候，还在数天上的星星呢，压根就没有探索太空的项目
