Woman gives birth after 900km trek, ride

印度女子长途跋涉900公里，在途中分娩

PATNA: A heavily pregnant and famished 28-year-old woman covered 900km from Noida on foot and in the back of a truck to reach Gopalganj on the UP-Bihar border on Thursday afternoon before her body almost gave up. As Rekha Devi went into labour and collapsed, her husband Sandip Yadav was spotted frantically seeking help even as the youngest of their three daughters clung to him.

An ambulance arrived after some time to take Rekha to the Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, where she gave birth to a girl. The baby, named Shristi, was on a ventilator till late on Friday.

过了一会，一辆救护车赶到，将瑞卡送到了Gopalganj Sadar医院，她在那里生下了一个女孩，取名叫希莉斯提，出生后一直使用呼吸机，直到周五晚间。

For 35-year-old Sandip and his young family, home is still 300km away in Supaul district. Like thousands of other migrant workers, the vegetable vendor had decided to leave for his native village after exhausting his meagre savings over a month and a half of the lockdown. The family started their journey on foot last Monday.

"We walked for hours before a truck driver spotted my nine-months-pregnant wife and possibly took pity on her," Sandip said. "He dropped us about 10km from the Balthari checkpoint in UP."

From there, the family resumed their journey on foot to reach Gopalganj, where their names and addresses were registered. "My wife started crying after covering the last 10km on foot under a scorching sun," Sandip told TOI over phone.

The ordeal for the family didn’t end here. Doctors at the government hospital first refused to admit Rekha, suspecting she might be positive for Covid-19. Out of desperation, Sandip called Gopalganj DM Arshad Aziz on his official mobile number. Aziz then directed the hospital authorities to treat Rekha. "The woman's husband hadn't informed the local authority at the inter-state checkpoint about his wife’s pregnancy," the DM said.

祸不单行，医院的医生最初拒绝接收瑞卡，怀疑她可能感染了新型冠状病毒。出于绝望，桑迪普给戈帕尔甘杰副部长阿尔沙德·阿齐兹打了个电话。阿齐兹随后指示医院收治瑞卡。阿齐兹说：“这名妇女的丈夫未将妻子怀孕一事告知邦际检查站的工作人员。”

Gopalganj SP Manoj Kumar Tiwari said, "We will arrange a vehicle to send the family to Supaul once doctors declare the woman and her baby fit for travel."

Sandip doesn't hold a grudge against anyone. He only wants his wife and newborn daughter to recover quickly so that they can all go home.

Since there are already millions of orphan kids available for adoption in India. Also as the human p0pulation increases, the habitats of endangered wild animals decreases. India has lost vast swathes of forests due to growing p0pulation and urbanisation in recent decades, as a result- Endangered elephants and tigers are k.illing one person a day in India as humans continue to encroach on the little habitat that these animals have left.

If it was up to me, nobody would be allowed to create babies in India for the next 20 years, since we already have more than enough citizens in the 1 to 20 age bracket. It may sound cruel, but it will tremendously improve living standards for everyone in the country
