Hunan was relatively quiet until 1910 when there were uprisings against the crumbling Qing dynasty, which were followed by the Co unist's Autumn Harvest Uprising of 1927. It was led by Hunanese native Mao Zedong, and established a short-lived Hunan Soviet in 1927. The Co unists maintained a guerrilla army in the mountains along the Hunan-Jiangx border until 1934. Under pressure from the Nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) forces, they began the famous Long March to bases in Shaanx Province. After the departure of the Co unists, the KMT army fought against the Japanese in the second Sino-Japanese war. They defended the capital Changsha until it fell in 1944. Japan launched Operation Ichigo, a plan to control the railroad from Wuchang to Guangzhou (Yuehan Railway). Hunan was relatively unscathed by the civil war that followed the defeat of the Japanese in 1945. In 1949, the Co unists returned once more as the Nationalists retreated southward.

Hello Suchisree,
Life is a long process of continuous learning. Incidentally I am being sent all this information by the Chinese which I wouldn't have bothered to look for. We would have never learnt about these places and known about them.

One thing amazes me of China which I have learnt from your blogs- China is such a beautiful blend of culture and modernism.Old charm and values blending so well with modern architecture and development. Just shows you can embrace the new with out eroding the old values !!
Beautiful pics, lovely info- always a treat to read your blogs
regards
navneetkumarbakshi
yes indeed Vijay there is such a smooth blend of modernity with culture that you can help but marvel at their aesthetic sense and rationale. Even though most of what I bring here these days is not seen by me but the pictures don't lie. It's not that the people are clicking some pictures of good places and sending to me, my own brush with the truth is what bowled me over.

Thanks Aaron for coming here and leaving the comment. It is not necessary that everyone who visits my blog post must leave a comment. Thanks to Zheng iao but let's see when I get to visit Changsha.

Navneetji,
Please convey my hearty thanks to Zheng iao for the chronologic historical data furnished in a brief package with seducing photographs. But his narration abruptly stopped at 1949. I thought he would have gone a bit further to explain how Mao Zedong took over entire China. Thanks for having a good friend in China and projecting lovely scenery of China.
I visited Beijeing in April, 2013 and I have also posted a blog on Great Wall of China in this site under Travel category which you may like to see if you wish.
navneetkumarbakshi
Hello Bankim Ji- Most of the text in the bolgs on China is searched by me as the Chinese who write to me and send the pictures have very limited knowledge of English but all of them are enthusiastic about telling of the achievements their country has made. They don't give as much credit to Mao and whether he was right or wrong is debatable. By snatching away the land from the feudal lords and distributing it among the poor, he really acted like a messiah.

Great, Changsha is changing very well and more beautiful, I went to Changsha first in 1996. Now JUZIZHOUTOU is very beautiful. So I will decide to visit Changsha this year secondly by bullet train

Oh really? Is there a bullet train for Changsha? I will also like to travel in the bullet train. Last time when I travelled to Wuhan the train was running at 250 Km/Hr. At what speed does the bullet train run?

I think it's too exaggerate to call Changsha "the entertainment capital of China"

changsha is my hometown, hunan's characteristic is four distinctive seasons, and hunaner like eating pepper. therefore, hunan people have fiery nature, bearing hardship and stand hard work.
navneetkumarbakshi
Hello Hunanes. Fiery nature? Are they hot tempered also :) ? So that means I should be careful when I meet you or another person from Hunan.

It is sacrilegious to compare Mao with Mahatma Gandhi.
