NEW DELHI: The Centre is mooting construction of rail lines alongside key expressways proposed to be built in the country in a bid to boost connectivity.

新德里：印度中央政府正在讨论在高速公路干道旁修建铁路，以促进互联互通。

The ministries of railways and road transport and highways have held meetings to explore how such corridors can be developed, senior government officials aware of the matter said.

“We have said that for greenfield expressways, we can look at the possibility of rail lines alongside,” an official told ET, asking not to be identified.

Five or six upcoming corridors, including Delhi-Amritsar-Katra and Chennai-Bengaluru, have been identified for such works.

The grand infra development plan envisaged long overdue tho' ,is certainly a step in right direction, for there's no gainsaying the fact that good infrastructure is a prerequisite for around development.

Its definitely a good initiative, but at the same time thoughts also has to be given to proper drainage system so that water logging doesnt become an issue. . The authorities should certainly look into this issue and take adequate measures.
