NEW DELHI: Bursting of firecrackers could be heard across Delhi and its neighbouring areas on Diwali night even though a ban was imposed on its sale and use in the national capital region in view of rising air pollution and Covid-19 pandemic.

新德里：在排灯节晚上，德里市区及其周边地区都可以听到鞭炮声，尽管鉴于空气污染加剧和疫情持续，首都地区已禁止销售和燃放鞭炮。

Sparklers were seen lighting up the night sky while crackers went off on the ground in various areas.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had on Monday imposed a total ban on sale or use of all kinds of firecrackers in the National Capital Region (NCR) till November 30 midnight.

周一，国家绿色法庭(NGT)颁布了一项禁令，在11月30日午夜之前，在首都地区(NCR)全面禁止销售或燃放各类鞭炮

The Delhi government too had earlier this month imposed a total ban on all kinds of fireworks till November 30.

However, on Diwali night firecrackers could be seen going off in various residential colonies of the national capital from around 8 pm.

然而，在排灯节当晚，从晚上8点左右就可以看到首都各个居民区燃放鞭炮。

The Delhi Police, however, said that it has deployed personnel in many parts of the city and action will be taken against those violating the ban.

Fireworks are almost wholly manufactured by small units in Sivakasi Tamil Nadu India starting several months before festivals . They are sold across the country largely by small businesses and petty traders ( and not corporates ) who pay and procure them weeks in advance. The pollution issue and the festival dates are known in advance. Why are bans on use of fireworks proclaimed only a week before Diwali after they are manufactured, and substantially sold ?

I live in Delhi's Dwarka area and I heard pretty the same amount of firecrackers burst this year as any other year..If the government has banned the bursting of firecrackers in Delhi, seems like they forgot to inform people about it..or forgot to inform the police about it...anyways looks like people are used to breathing poison now and they have no desire to breathe clean air..may be because cigarettes are so expensive these days so they just want to smoke for free...
