US IT giant offers Rs 1.5 crore package at IIT placements

NEW DELHI: Domestic packages offered at some of the premier IITs have gone up several notches this year. A package of Rs 80 lakh has been offered by more than one firm on some campuses — a jump from last year’s highest of Rs 62 lakh. Among the international firms, California-based IT giant Cohesity has offered the highest package of $200,000 (close to Rs 1.5 crore). However, trading firm Optiver, with a competitive package of 157,000 euros (nearly Rs 1.4 crore), has picked more students for its Amsterdam and Sydney profiles. Interviews were conducted virtually this year.

At IIT-Bombay, Optiver picked seven students for roles in trading, software and Quant research for Amsterdam and Sydney profiles. There were more interviews scheduled by Optiver even in the second slot at IIT-Bombay, said a student. A student said the number of roles offered by the institute is very encouraging given the pandemic situation. Cohesity, with the highest offer, had shortlisted one student for the US profile in the second slot. The final offer was not confirmed.

Domestic recruiters like Qualcomm picked a larger number — 11 from Bombay and eight from IIT-Madras. The telecom major’s compensation package stood at Rs 46.4 lakh, followed by Rs 39.7 lakh offered by WorldQuant, Rs 37.2 lakh by Morgan Stanley and Rs 35.3 lakh by Uber. Around 18 companies were part of the first session, and the highest offers were made by Microsoft, Google, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Boston Consulting Group, Apple, and Bain & Co at IIT-Bombay. A total of 153 pre-placement offers (PPOs) were made to the graduating class of 2021 from the institute.

Please domt convert $200K to Indian rupees. In california with $200 you can just do roti kapda aur makan thats it. Had it been in india you are paying 1.5 Cr then yes it is a headline. Again this 1.5Cr includes your shares, performance bonus which has company oerformance tied to it so your package in actual will be 70 lakhs

Tax payers money is spent on IITs and when students pass out they ditch our country and go abroad and settle there. IIT subsidy must stop. There must not be any govt funding for IIT from tax payers money. After passing out from IIT all students must give bond to serve in India compulsorily for 10 years

This kind of news is misleading when you convert US salary to INR, It's not much when you get that much while you live in USA. A 25 lakhs package in India gives a more luxurious life.

Package and all is good and may be well deserved. However it irkes me when they do not take up job in the stream/discipline they graduate in, such as a Chemical engineer goes for Financial Trading company. Thats a sort of wastage of tax-payers money.

Google, Facebook, Amazon, Cohient etc. were created 20 years after TCS, Infosys, Wipro or other Indian IT companies e.g. Satyam, HCL, Patni Computers. However American companies have grown in zillions while Indian IT is still cheap labour contractors. No Indian IT company has any patent nor any innovation to show in 40 years.

sorry but 1.5 Crore in India is just a "liveable wage" amongst IT folks here especially if you are in Silicon valley.... a Two bedroom apartment runs around 5k USD a month.... thats 60k USD a year , ie 45 lakhs! taxes are at 33% and you work dog hours. Still proud of the boys who made it! I am just trying to set expectations right! USD 200,000 for an IITian is not a bad start.... but just a start!
