NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the New Parliament building on December 10 with a ‘bhoomi pujan’ for the project which is to be completed by 2022, coinciding with 75 years of India’s independence, at an estimated cost of over 970 crore.

新德里：12月10日，莫迪总理将为新议会大厦奠基，该项目将于2022年完工，恰逢印度独立75周年，预计耗资超过97亿卢比。

“The exsting temple of de ocracy is completing 100 years... It is a matter of pride for our countrymen that the new one will be built by our own people as a prime example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, giving details of the proposed building to reporters on Saturday. “The new building will showcase the cultural diversity of the country. Hopefully, in the 75th year of independence (2022), Parliament session will be held in the new building,” he said.

人民院发言人Om Birla表示：“ 现有的议会大厦已经满100年了……我们应该感到骄傲的是，新议会大厦由我们的人民建造，作为“印度自力更生”的模范项目。”周六，他向记者透露了建造计划的细节。“新建筑将展示印度的文化多样性。希望在独立75周年(2022年)，议会会议将在新大楼举行，”他说。

Built over an area of 64,500 sq m, the building will have more space to accommodate 888 MPs in Lok Sabha compared to the present strength of 543 members while Rajya Sabha will accommodate 384 seats against the current strength of 245. The number of members in both Houses is likely to increase after 2026 due to delimitation.

该建筑占地64500平方米，人民院可容纳888名议员，实际上只有543名议员，而联邦院可容纳384名议员，目前有245名议员。2026年后两院的议员人数可能会增加。

Birla said Lok Sabha will have the option to increase seating capacity to 1,224 for joint sittings and there will be no Central Hall. He said artisans and sculptors from all over the country would showcase India’s cultural diversity in the new building, making it a symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Birla said each MP would be provided with a 40 sq m office space.

The exsting Parliament building was designed to house the imperial legislative council and was not planned for a bicameral national legislature. Two floors were added to the structure in 1956 due to demand for more space.

目前的议会大楼是为帝国立法委员会建的，而不是为两院制的国家立法机构而设计的。由于需要更大的空间，1956年又增加了两层。

I don't understand Why some people criticize everything. The decision is taken by parliament of India not by a single person.even a common man rebuilds or redevelops his house when it's too old and inconvenient for growing family needs.
