NEW DELHI: Putting weeks of speculation to rest, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty joined the BJP at a rally in Kolkata on Sunday.

新德里：数周的猜测终于告一段落，周日，资深演员Mithun Chakraborty加入了印度人民党，参加了在加尔各答举行的一场集会。

Chakraborty, a former TMC Rajya Sabha member, was welcomed to the party fold by BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and state president Dilip Ghosh among others.

Addressing a sea of supporters at the Brigade Parade Ground after joining the saffron party, the National Award-wng actor said that the BJP has given him a platform to fulfil his aspiration.

The actor-politician also borrowed a dialogue from one of his films, saying that he is "a cobra who can kill people in one bite."

"Ami joldhorao noi, bele borao noi... ami ekta cobra, ek chobol-ei chobi (Don't mistake me for a harmless snake, I am a cobra, can kill people in one bite)," he said amid a rousing cheer from supporters.

在支持者的欢呼声中，他说：“我是一条眼镜蛇，别以为我是无毒的蛇，我是一条眼镜蛇，咬一口就能死人。”

He also asserted that he was proud to be a Bengali.

他还称为身为孟加拉人而自豪。

"I always wanted to do something big in life, but had never dreamt of being a part of such a huge rally which is to be addressed by world's most popular leader Narendra Modi. I wished to work for the poorer sections of our society, and that wish will now be fulfilled," he said.

他说：“我一直想在有生之年干点大事，但从未想过能参加世界最受欢迎的领导人纳伦德拉·莫迪的大型集会。我希望为社会的贫困阶层服务，现在这个愿望将要实现。”

Mithun's mega entry into the BJP came just moments ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally at the iconic Kolkata ground.

Raising the poll pitch in West Bengal, the Prime Minister said that chief minister Mamata Banerjee broke the trust of the people of the state and insulted them.

人民党在西孟加拉邦的支持率提高，莫迪总理说，首席部长玛玛塔·班纳吉辜负了该邦人民的信任，令他们蒙羞。

"People of Bengal never lost hope despite betrayal by Didi and her cadre," Modi said.

莫迪说：“尽管遭到了玛玛塔及其干部的背叛，孟加拉人民从未失去希望。”
