India records highest single-day rise of 2,61,500 cases, 1,501 deaths

NEW DELHI: India on Sunday recorded another highest-ever spike of 2,61,500 coronavirus infections, taking its total Covid-19 cases tally to 1,47,88,109.

新德里：周日，印度新增确诊261500例，又创新高，累计确诊总数达到14788109例。

The active cases have surpassed the 18-lakh mark, according to data updated by Union Health Ministry on Sunday.

据联邦卫生部周日更新的数据显示，现存确诊病例已超过180万例。

India also reported 1,501 new fatalities in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll in the country due to the virus has increased to 1,77,150.

在过去24小时内，印度报告了1501例死亡。累计死亡人数已经增至177150人。

The active cases, standing at 18,01,316, comprise 12.18 % of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has dropped to 86.62%, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,28,09,643, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.20%, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
