Rahul Gandhi suspends his rallies in Bengal due to Covid situation

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday suspended his campaign for the West Bengal assembly elections owing to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.

新德里：由于新冠肺炎疫情，周日国大党领袖拉胡尔·甘地暂停了为西孟加拉邦议会选 举举办的竞选活动。

"In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal," said Rahul in a tweet.

拉胡尔在推特上说:“ 鉴于新冠疫情的形势，我暂停了原定在西孟加拉邦举办的所有公众集会。”

The former Congress president also advised all political leaders "to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies" under the current circumstances.

India reported 2,61,500 new cases in the last 24 hours, its highest single day surge since the pandemic began last year.

It is the fourth straight day of India reporting more than 2 lakh new cases.
