NEW DELHI: Three days after a nine-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped, murdered and cremated without her family’s consent in Delhi Cantonment area, politicians from various parties, including CM Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP Delhi chief Adesh Gupta, all met the grieving family on Wednesday.

Kejriwal announced financial support of Rs 10 lakh to the family and said he would order a magisterial inquiry into the case. The AAP government will appoint two lawyers to ensure strict punishment for the culprits, the CM said after meeting the family. Social welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal and AAP MLAs accompanied Kejriwal.

A nine-year-old girl had to unfortunately suffer a heinous crime and was then murdered. I met her grieving parents. The injustice that has happened with the family is very distressing,” CM Arvind Kejriwal said.

I appeal to the Central government that concrete measures be taken in this regard and the Delhi government will fully cooperate with the Centre in order to fix the law and order situation in the city. Delhi is the national capital. If such incidents take place in the city, it does not send out a good message about the city. It makes people feel unsafe and internationally sends a message that India’s national capital is witnessing such heinous incidents.”

Rahul Gandhi, too, drove to Nangal where he spent time with the victim’s family. Gandhi attacked the Centre for the growing numbers of crime in Delhi and demanded fast-track trial and death sentence for the accused.
