NEW DELHI: India is likely to allow the grounded-since-March-2019 Boeing 737 Max to fly again within the country in coming weeks.

Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-promoted Akasa airline is planning to have a B737 Max fleet.

While SpiceJet, the only Indian carrier with B737 Max in its fleet, has so far not approached the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) seeking clearance for this aircraft to fly again, sources say Akasa informally approached aviation authorities for the same as it prepares to place an order for about 100 Max.

A Boeing spokesperson said: “We continue to work with global regulators to safely return the 737-8 and 737-9 to service worldwide. We’ll defer to the DGCA on timelines.”

Boeing and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been sharing technical details of the Max with the Indian DGCA.

The US major says over 170 out of 195 global regulators have opened their airspace for the B737 MAX.

Finally some due recognition to a superb airplane which unfortunately suffered bad reputation and misfortune in the recent past. For some who think Airbus is safer you need to know that the Airbus crashed and burned in its maiden flight but still is considered a good plane .. so is the Boeing 737 MAX ....It's a well made plane. I'm sure it will prove itself solid in the coming future. Kudos to Akasa .!!
