At 100GW, India now fourth in solar, wind energy capacity

NEW DELHI: India’s renewable energy capacity, excluding large hydroelectric projects, hit 100 GW (gigawatts) on Thursday, making it the world’s fourth largest in terms of total installed green energy capacity.

新德里：周四，印度的可再生能源装机容量(不包括大型水力发电项目)达到100吉瓦（GW），印度在绿色能源总装机容量方面位居世界第四。

The milestone is commendable for the world’s third-largest polluter as it has been achieved in a short span of five years of prime minister Narendra Modi announcing in 2015 his plan to build 175 GW renewable energy capacity by 2022.

But going by the pace of capacity addition this year, achieving that target within the stipulated time frame will be a herculean task. But a government statement said “India aims to touch 450 GW capacity by 2030, staying resolute in its commitment to sustainable development goals”.

Be that as it may, the milestone will help New Delhi resist pressure to declare a net zero goal and call out the developed economies on their pitiful effort to reduce carbon emission.

Great milestone. Installed capacity and utllization are very different things. The utilization ratio should be used for these metrics. Installed capacity does not mean its always operational.

Should mention how much solar panels, wind turbines are imported from China. Indians will be shocked. Modi can ban a few China apps to make a token show to Indians, but not power, industrial equipment, nor electric buses.

Actually our solar transition is hel China! They are erecting new solar panel plants! At least some solar panels are made here but unfortunately 100 % solar invertors (to convert solar to AC power) are imported from China!!!

India barely spend on R&D, so she doesn't really make much anything other than some auto parts, some baubles, some fabrics and sundry other stuff, thus ensuring that all advanced electronics and other hi-tech stuff must be imported, mostly from China, because it's cheaper.
