NEW DELH: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday hiked the minimum supoort price (MSP) on wheat by Rs 40 to Rs 2,015 per quintal for the current crop year.

新德里：周三，印度联邦内阁将本收成年度的小麦最低支持价格（MSP）上调40卢比，至每公担2015卢比

MSP is the rate at which the government buys the grain from farmers. Currently, the government fixes MSPs for 23 crops grown in both kharif and rabi seasons.

MSP是印度政府从农民手中收购粮食的价格。目前，政府确定了23种秋收和冬收作物的MSP价格。

The world's second biggest wheat producer, India sets a price each year to protect domestic farmers from distress sales and stock grain for emergency needs. It also uses grain to sell food to the poor at low prices.

The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for lentil and rapeseeds & mustard at Rs 400 per quintal for each followed by gram at Rs 130 per quintal.

与前一年相比，扁豆、油菜籽和芥菜的建议MSP价格绝对增幅最高，每公担400卢比，其次是鹰嘴豆，每公担130卢比。

In all, the cabinet approved MSP hike for six rabi crops for the 2021-22 crop year (July-June) and 2022-23 marketing season.

Sowing of rabi (winter) crops begins from October immediately after the harvest of kharif (summer) crops. Wheat and mustard are major rabi crops.

Meanwhile, thousands of farmers who have been protesting against the three new agricultural law since a long time now have said that the MSP hike is not enough to cover the cost of cultivation, news agency Reuters reported.
