The rise of India should be welcomed, just as the rise of other Asian, African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and other develo nations. For India, the leaders and people should be more rational and objective. A good dose of humility is also very good as it motivates you to do better. The problem with India is that they can be manipulated using emotions and hubris. They are currently feted with nice flattering words of being an incipient or neglected superpower etc but the fundanmentals are still weak. Look critically at your history of how India was colonized by the British through divide and rule. Each rajahs or sultans was used against each other because of greed, pride and vanity.

Well said. Land refrom, education, health and creation of large infrastructure laid a concrete foundation for development success. None of them was an easy job for both gov. or normal ppl.

Agree mostly with Kishore, but what Kishore did not explain was why couldn't India open up its economy. Why China could swallow the bitter pill in the 1970s, but India could not.

India have the brains and the population but lacked SOCIETAL & CULTURAL DISCIPLINE & COHESION to make these grand plans work. Case in point is that India  has been a free market since 1947 and have not achieved much. That is not to say that it can't. It just need to have everyone on the same page.

Indian and China are English names. If THEN Great Britain called India, China, and Called China, India. Then Indian already was 6 times stronger than China.
