Rafale-M vs Super Hornet: Navy hunts for fighters; IAC Vikrant likely to be commissioned in August

India is looking for naval fighters for the indigenous aircraft carrier, the IAC Vikrant which is undergoing trials for likely commissioning in August. The contest is between Rafale-M, the marine version of the French fighter and U.S-made F/A-18 block III Super Hornet. The Rafale-M recently demonstrated the ski-jump at the shore-based test facility in Goa. The Boeing F/A-18 Block III Super Hornet is expected to showcase the ski-jump capability at Goa facility in March.

印度正在为国产航母“维克兰特”号挑选舰载机，该航母正在进行试航，或在8月服役。

舰载机的选择，是在法国海军版“阵风-M”和美国制造的F/A-18 block III超级大黄蜂之间进行的。

I have just 1 issue with the FA-18 and that is we will have one more type of aircraft then. We already have too much diversity in our fleet. Having 1 more type will only increase the maintenance cost.Anyways Navy should buy what they find good. We're not some defence expert.

We should have a mix of technology. Instead of depending on one single source we may diversify the source. Super Hornet is the best in the world and shall prefer it. But, US is one country, which is notorious in denying supply of spares for political reason at the time of crises. The government should add a suitable clause in the aggrement which will protect our interest.

It doesn't matter how good the fighter plane I'm sure both Rafael and Super Hornet are good (not the best) but it all depends on who or which company can Lobby the best! And feel the pockets of Ministers and Bureaucrats.

Fa 18 would be good, having different region of fighters will make a good impact on india fighter fleet as well as good relation with usa.. we are already having rafale variety in our air force.

I think we should go with Rafael M bcoz France is a reliable partner as compared to USA.. Every time government changes in USA their foreign policies also take a u turn n if upcoming government in USA don't showed leverage in providing these fighter aircrafts on time Or they demanded for more price of super hornet then it will be a big big problem for India..

Government should indeed choose the best one. But if both the planes are equally competent,  we should go for hornet as out relationships with US have seen backlash in a past few days as we purchased S400 from Russia and Rafale from France.

We need US support to counter China and to make out Foreign Repo. No matter how US is . Yes they are biased they look for their own benefits but right now u need foreign support

I think we should go for JF 17 Thunder Naval version for IAC 1. It's overall much better than Rafale and Super Hornet combined.

Whenever someone's buy any American jet,the American government makes the buyer sign some agreements,India has hence avoided buying American jets since those agreements apparently undermine the sovereignty of ours.
