External Affairs Minister Jaishankar is in France on a 3-day visit; aimed at cementing bilateral defence cooperation. Strong buzz - Jaishankar may discuss sharing tech to produce 100 kilo newton thrust Safran engines in India. Last year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated France has agreed to jointly build aircraft engine. Modi Govt has already stated in Parliament that it has proposed to develop engines with an int'l engine house.

With an operating radius if 300KM the Tejas can only be used in Defense ops. It can't be used in an Attacking role. Anyways, it appears that India needs to lay an additional order of more Rafale's if it want's to push forward with the Engine development. Dassault and Safran aren't stupid, they want to sell fighter jets and wouldn't want to help a key business prospect to start manufacturing his own jets. So I believe France may push India to buy additional jets to incentivize and push Safran for this defense cooperation.
