Several Indian students in Ukraine trudged 35km in freezing temperature to reach the border with Poland ho for an escape from the ravaging war, but are now stuck there with little or no food and shelter. The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said on Twitter on Saturday that Indian citizens should not move to any of the border posts without prior coordination with the Indian government officials. India is evacuating its people stranded in Ukraine through bordering Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Romania.

The Advisory of Indian MEA clearly stated the students not to attempt border crossing by themselves as it is difficult to trace them . Crossing of borders requires special permission . Right now a conflict is going on and airspace has been blocked . This rescue mission is more tougher than Yemen and Afghanistan as Indian citizens are dispersed all over the Ukraine where conflict is going on in almost all the regions . It is important that these students adhere to the advisory given and not panic .

My brother and his friends were told to wait till a bus takes them to a pre destined location and not to try to evacuate on their own ...They did exactly that , in-spite of being scared and a little delay and now they are waiting for their air plane in Hungary

Indian government and Indian nationals in Europe should work together. Take as many as Indian students to a safe shelter.

There are chances that Ukraine is possibly pissed off at Indian decision at UN without understanding geopolitical need of India to do so. That could be a motive. Also saw some video of Ukrainian border personnel attacking students too. Getting these students to safety should be our no 1 priority.

We can't trust west at any cost.

Embassy gave warning long back. As usual never takes things seriously. Now tax payers money are waste to deal with this evacuation. Let them stay there in 1 or 2 days Ukraine will fall. They will be safe under Russia. Russia won't harm Indians.
