NEW DELHI: A row has erupted over an undated video doing the rounds on Twitter which shows Congress leader Rahul Gandhi partying at a nightclub reportedly in Nepal's Kathmandu.

Several BJP leaders on Tuesday shared the video on Twitter and slammed the Congress leadership amid communal clashes in Rajasthan where the party is in power.

"Rahul Gandhi was at a nightclub when Mumbai was under siege [sic]. He is at a nightclub at a time when his party is exploding. He is consistent," BJP IT cell incharge Amit Malviya tweeted.

"Interestingly, soon after the Congress refused to outsource their presidency, hit jobs have begun on their Prime Ministerial candidate," Malviya said.

However, the Congress later said that Rahul was in Nepal to attend a function and asked whether it's a crime to have friends.

But by the time Congress made the statement, several BJP leaders had already taken potshots at the former Congress president.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju questioned Rahul — an MP — for "preaching others" while reportedly partying himself.

In a tweet in Hindi, former Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that crisis looms over Congress but not the "family".

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that he hasn't personally seen the video but alleged that Rahul "parties every day and no one stops him anyway".

Hitting back over the barbs, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Rahul had visited Nepal to attend a marriage ceremony and it is "not a crime in India" to attend a marriage celebration.
