This video shows the Top 20 countries with the most total cumulative International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) gold medals since 1959.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO.

Us math team = 80% Chinese, 10% Indians, 10% Russians. Sometimes it's all Chinese. During medals ceremony, they looked back and forth between both teams like 15 times because they couldn't tell right off the bat which Chinese team won the gold and which Chinese team won the silver LOL

Iran is very impressive,only started competing since 1994,  wow, they managed impressive 45 gold so far, they have been competing for a short while. Respect also to Russian Chinese, Romanian, Hungarian and Vietnamese students,  it shows how much potential this countries have.

Hungary has the most gold medals per capita which is extremely impressive. We are talking about a little country that has barely 10 million people.

Hungarian is known for being one of the most difficult languages in the world, and while I am sure good education is important to be able to excel at mathematics and get these medals, but what's even more important is the language, because it  affects way of thinking, logic, etc from an early age.
