Actually, this is not really the first time China is building a sea or offshore airport as claimed in the video. Chek Lap Kok in Hong Kong and Macau Airport were largely built on reclaimed land. But of course, Dalian when completed will be the furthest from the original shoreline and also will be the biggest.

The only problem that the Chinese engineers need to worry about this project is that the coffer dams (using sheet piles or bored piles) walls will have sea water leakage into the soil of the reclaimed island.
No matter how hard you compact the soil you will experience ground settlement or movement that will affect your runways integrity and put them out of use.
Normally reclaimed land in the sea need about 30 years to really settled down fully.
You are not giving nature sufficient time to do this job.
Do take note.
