NEW DELHI: The Singapore government has withdrawn its invitation to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to participate in World Cities Summit 2022 saying it cannot accept further additions to the plenary since the acceptance deadline of July 20 has lapsed, sources privy to the development said on Thursday.

新德里：知情人士周四表示，新加坡政府撤回了对德里首席部长阿尔温德·凯杰里瓦尔参加2022年世界城市峰会的邀请，称由于7月20日的接受截止日期已过，无法接受进一步增加参与成员。

Kejriwal was invited by the High Commissioner of Singapore, Simon Wong, in June to speak at the WCS Plenary “Liveable & Sustainable Cities: Combating the Climate Crisis”. While the CM had sent his file for the visit to LG VK Saxena for clearance on June 7, the latter had returned it on July 21 advising that it was a “conference of mayors not befitting attendance by a chief minister”.

The summit is taking place from July 31 to August 3 and Kejriwal was expected to speak on August 1.

After the rejection of his file by LG, Kejriwal had said that he would “go ahead” with the visit and had asked his team to apply for “political clearance” on the online portal of the ministry of external affairs. He had also written to PM Narendra Modi earlier this month that blocking a chief minister from attending such an event was “against the interests of the nation”.

凯杰里瓦尔在申请被LG拒绝后，曾表示将“继续进行”访问，并在外交部门户网站上要求团队申请“政治许可”。本月早些时候，他还写信给莫迪总理，称阻止首席部长参加这样的活动“违反国家利益”。

Reacting to the development, Delhi government said only the Centre “can be held responsible for the CM not being able to attend the World Cities Summit and the subsequent humiliation the country has had to face”.
