India and UK ties vital: PM Narendra Modi, Liz Truss on phone

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi spoke to his British counterpart, Elizabeth Truss, on Saturday and expressed deep condolences to the royal family and the people of the UK on the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, the government said in a statement.

新德里：政府在一份声明中表示，周六，总理纳伦德拉·莫迪与英国首相利兹·特拉斯通话，就女王伊丽莎白二世的逝世向英国王室和英国人民表示深切的哀悼。

Truss thanked Modi for his heartfelt condolences, which, he said, were on behalf of 1.3 billion Indians, according to a Downing Street readout.

"The leaders acknowledged the grief felt by the many people of the UK and India, and paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s lifetime of service," said Truss' office. “The two agreed on the vital importance of the UK-India relationship and looked forward to meeting in person in the near future,” it added.

Modi also congratulated Truss on assuming the office of the prime minister of the UK. "He also appreciated her contributions to the India-UK bilateral relationship in her previous roles as trade secretary and foreign secretary. Both leaders committed to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UK," said the Indian government.

莫迪对特拉斯就任英国首相表示祝贺，还对她在担任贸易大臣和外交大臣期间对印英双边关系的贡献表示赞赏。两位领导人都承诺进一步加强印度和英国之间的全面战略伙伴关系。”

The two leaders also discussed various issues of bilateral interest, including the progress in the implementation of the Roadmap 2030, ongoing FTA negotiations, defence and security cooperation, and the people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Truss has not bribed to become PM . She proved herself better suited than Sunak in a bitter battle. She would have noted that Sunak’s India has been telling people that King George, Father of HM the late Queen gave Indians “slave mentality” . Truss would also have noted removal of Queen Victoria’s Statue and renaming of Janpath because the name made slaves of Indians. Since the Ukraine War has made the situation for her tough, Truss would remember India’s nine abstentions. England needs India’s cooperation as much as America needed Indian IT workers to keep its Economy alive.
