India slams Pakistan for Kashmir remarks, chides Germany too

NEW DELHI: India hit out at Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto for raising the J&K issue in Germany, saying the Union territory had borne the brunt of a terrorist campaign for decades. India also reminded Germany that all “serious and conscientious” members of the global community have the responsibility to call out cross-border terrorism.

新德里：印度抨击巴基斯坦外长比拉瓦尔·布托在德国提出查谟克什米尔问题，称这片联邦属地几十年来一直是恐 怖主义活动的主要打击对象。印度还提醒德国，国际社会所有“认真尽责的”成员都有责任打击跨境恐 怖主义。

While Bilawal spoke about alleged human ri hts violations in Jmmu & Kashmir, his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock had said after her meeting with him that Germany also had “role and responsibility” with regard to the situation in Kashmir and, it supported “intensively the engagement of the UN to find peaceful solutions in the region”. All serious and conscientious members of the global community have a role and responsibility to call out international terrorism, especially of a cross-border nature, said the Indian government in its response.

“The Indian Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has borne the brunt of such a terrorist campaign for decades. This continues till now. Foreign nationals have been victims there, as also in other parts of India,” said ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, adding the UN security council and the global anti-money laundering body FATF were still pursuing Pakistan-based terrorists involved in the horrific 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

“When states do not recognise such dangers, either because of self-interest or indifference, they undermine the cause of peace, not promote it. They also do grave injustice to the victims of terrorism,” said the Indian official. This is not the first time Baerbock waded into what India believes is purely a bilateral issue. She had said during her visit to Islamabad in June this year that she supported resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.
