I have been living in China for 12 years now and my opinions on the country have changed a lot since moving here. Although, I don't agree with everything China is doing, I do think the country has been improving a lot and it isn't as bad as western media often reports it to be.

我在中国生活了12年，自从搬到这里后，我对这个国家的看法发生了很大的变化。虽然，并非中国所做的一切，我都认可。不过，我认为这个国家已经进步了很多，不像西方媒体经常报道的那样糟糕。

I was blown away by the size of Beiing as well as how modern it was when we visited there. Transportation and infrastructure were amazing. I have never felt as safe in any country. it is fair to point out those problems you have encountered in China. 1.4 billions population is a vast number to steer in right direction to please everyone in China, not to mention to please a foreigner who came from a totally different culture/society.. I absolutely love, respect and impressed by China and  what the govt has done to transform the country from a "once" a iin country to a world power in less than 30+ years. China is beautiful. Look at the hi speed train system and infrastructure they have build all over China and Hong Kong. just more than world class!! Bravo China!

I have lived in China for 17 years, I have built my own 250 person factory from the ground up. I believe from speaking to government guys in my city that they are very keen to get more talented foreigners back into China. The problem is, and I know this from firsthand experience trying to recruit people from overseas, people just don’t want to do the quarantine. I think after they reopen, there will be a flood of foreign talent into the country. I also strongly agree that pollution is significantly reduced, I know from all of the regulations that we now have to comply with, that the government is taking this very seriously. I am currently touring Europe seeing customers, I am absolutely astonished at how bad Europe has become, it’s politics are a joke, its infrastructure is crumbling, manufacturing is on the brink of having to close down two or three days a week. China is doing a fabulous job in comparison. I think it’s about time the arrogant western politicians started to learn some lessons from China.

I spent time in China months at a time. I agree with all said. I found China safe and people seemed pretty happy. China does take good care of their people from all I saw and heard when asked how things were there for people.

This is by far the most objective review on China I have seen so far. Great job!  At this moment, if you watch the US (and the British as well) policy closely, you can tell how much aggression those assholes in the white house are putting in those policy towards China. In a similar way, the western media smears China at a scary level and I believe you agree with me on this one with all the lies and twisted angles and so on. Just as Jeff Sachs, an endowed professor in Columbia U, puts it: "The US provokes China all the time, and turns around and pretends not knowing why China is pissed. Worse still US even accuses China for behaving so aggressively." I admire this professor as he has the courage to tell the truth and I have to call out to the US govt: "What a big piece of Aaaaasssshole!"

I used to think it was a big dangerous co state - because that was what I had been fed by western media throughout my whole life.

It's actually quite the opposite, and living in Shanghai I feel 10 times safer than living in London.

your comment is fair and i agree. i worked for the provincial govt before i retired. i believe self-censorship happens in every countries. when i worked, there were things we staff talked about privately but not openly to upset management.  yes, it is hard to be fired from the govt, but management could make your life a bit more uncomfortable. love from canada.

I am Chinese and work in Ireland for so many years. I was verbally attacked by other nationalities during COVID. Also I knew some Chinese were actually physically attacked by locals. So Chinese people in China need to see what happened to other Chinese abroad. it’s not anti foreigner in China. I think most Chinese people are just angry about that.

How about every time I look at a good social media story about western successes,  it began with an introduction of past questionable military adventures - such as ;  Vietnam, or Iraq, or Syria, or Chile, or tragic disasters as a consequence of Corporate Greed?

Looking to the cause of this negativity eventually the pin drops. It is an ideological and economic war originating from the present dominant Global power.

Who controls Britain? Who controls Nato? Who dictates to the EU.? Why are all Western media outlets selling the same story? Who controls the media?

You highlight exactly what all Chinese-Americans and most Asian Americans already know without going to China. Chinese ppl and government are partly to blame for the ignorant that Americans have. In their pursuit to “look good” and censor the negatives, they also block the positive. I don't think the government is having restrictions targeting foreigners since covid, it's just restriction from anyone from outside of China, including Chinese people like me, I haven't been able to go back to China for a few years now, Of course technically I can do it, just cost a lot of money and time of confinement and troubles. And I understand and support China~s policy to protect people's life! But of course I would love China  to re-open soon, too. Just wanna say China's policy is not targeting foreigners, Chinese people suffer not less than you foreigners. It's all for one purpose: to protect life from covid.

The reason foreigners are not welcome as before is that some of them don't follow the rules in terms of the COVID measures taken by the government. This has been an issue for most Chinese, who do not want to be infected by foreigners' reckless behaviors. They think that they are above the rules and regulations. The government has a dilemma of how to treat them (some trouble-makers who are affiliated with the NGOs). You know what I meant.
