China announces 1st Covid-19 death in almost 6 months

BEIG: China on Sunday announced its first new death from Covid-19 in nearly half a year as strict new measures are imposed in Beiing and across the country to ward against new outbreaks.

The death of the 87-year-old Beiing man was the first reported by the National Health Commission since May 26, bringing the total death toll to 5,227.

While China has an overall vaccination rate of more than 92% having received at least one dose, that number is considerably lower among the elderly, particularly those over age 80. The commission did not give details on the vaccination status of the deceased.

北京：周日，中国宣布了近半年来首次新冠病毒死亡病例，全国各地都采取了严格的新措施，以防止新的疫情爆发。

这名87岁的北京男子，是自5月26日以来国家卫生健康委员会首次报告的死亡病例，由此总死亡人数达到5227人。

尽管中国至少接种过一剂疫苗的总体接种率超过92%，但老年人，尤其是80岁以上的老年人的接种率要低得多。委员会没有详细说明死者的接种情况。
